Bolton-By-Bowland: Bolton Hall, Priests' Room
Bolton by Bowland
This Hall is reputed to be the oldest hall in Craven dating from 1229. There were extensive renovations to the hall in the 19th Century. After the First World War the Hall proved too costly to maintain and it succumbed to disrepair and then dry rot, and was eventually demolished in 1959.

Little is known of the Priests' Room; it does not feature in available material but, given the strength of Roman Catholicism in the area throughout the Mediaeval period and through the Tudor and Stuart dynasties it is highly likely that, like other local gentry, the Pudsays would have kept a priest for their private worship and to service the church.
