A large house, later used as a welfare centre, it was enlarged in 1883 by Paley and Austin. It is in sandstone with hipped slate roofs, and is in Neoclassical style. The house has an L-shaped plan, and is in two storeys with a three-storey tower at the north end of the wing. The entrance front of the main block is symmetrical with three bays, and a central Doric porch with four columns and a pediment. The south front has five bays, and most of the windows are sashes. Once owned by Abraham Wharton Crompton who was a great grandfather of Beatrix Potter and later by Lord Ashton who lived at the nearby Ryelands Park.
