Fairy Steps
Beetham
This is the Limestone bank that hides the fairy steps. Unfortunately Graystone Bird does not appear to have taken a view of the steps themselves, which are well hidden in one of the cracks in the rock.
It seems a curious name and on looking at an old map of the area discovered there was a Fiery House spelt Fiery on the Beetham Side of the Fell. Could this be how the name originated? A legend also says that it is called fairy steps because if you could climb the very narrow steps without touching the sides the fairies would grant you a wish.
