This image was loaned by Mrs M Sumner of the Lea Women's Institute in Preston in April 2012. It's a picture of Mrs Sumner's Mother, Annie Tipping, who was dressed as a fairy to be part of a cotton mill float in the 1922 Preston Guild celebrations and was thrilled to be picked to take part. float. Mrs Sumner thinks that Annie was about 14 at the time and it's possible that she could have attended school for half a day and worked in the mill for the other half.
