Marineland, in Morecambe, could face closure because of a complex row over who pays for repairs. The Oceanarium was built with "controversial" high-alumina cement, and parts of the building are now crumbling. Whilst the building is safe, the owners, Shearer Estates, have ordered Lancaster City Council to perform thousands of pounds of improvement work. The Council, in turn, has served a similar notice to Trident Leisure, the company which operates the Dolphinarium and Aquaria there. Trident Leisure, however, have revealed that they did not sign a lease with the council, four years ago, precisely because they did not want to be responsible for huge repair bills.
