Born in 1886, Edith was the chairperson of the Burnley and District Hospital Management Committee. This photograph of her was taken when she received an honorary M.A. from the University of Manchester for her work in health and education. The man stood on her right is Lord Frederick James Marquis Woolton, who at the time was the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster. In 1960 she was awarded an O.B.E. by the Queen at Buckingham Palace. Edith passed away in 1963 aged 77.
