Nicholas Townley; Canon Arthur Townley-Parker
The earliest mention of Royle was end 13th Century as "Rohille". The Hall dated to the 16th Century with most of the house dating from the 17th Century being built by Nicholas Townley. Canon Arthur Townley Parker, rector of St. Peter's Church lived there from 1855 until his death in 1902. The Hall then stood empty until it was purchased and mostly demolished in 1940 with the exception of the staff quarters, a pair of 18th Century cottages, and other out-buildings. The cottages remain having been made into a farmhouse.
