General notes
Sand was used in the brickworks east of Stormy Corner. It was delivered via a dedicated line from the sand wash sited near to the present day duck pond on Engine Lane, Skelmersdale.

'The sand that was extracted from the fields, went to Pilkingtons Glassworks at St Helens.
The raw material for making bricks is clay or shale, usually a mixture of both!
A wagon was used to bring it from Dalton, a quarry at near Appley Bridge.
I worked at the brickworks in the 60s.' - user feedback 27 Oct 2025.
