View of ghost houses fronting Church Road taken from Upholland Parish church graveyard and supposedly showing Upholland's highway man, George Lyons', grave. The house was one of the oldest in the village, 3 stories high and at one time may have communicated with the old abbey. Several Councillors witnessed the occurrences consisting of knocking, plaster being thrown and sounds. These appeared to come from the area around a walled up window with the stones in the wall beneath the window wrenched out. A representative of the Physical Research Society was sent to investigate.
