General notes
Brookhouse F.C., founded and run by Nat. Wilcocks, boss of Brookhouse Motors. Played 1900-1930 on land later occupied by the Empress Cinema in Eldon Street. The ground was surrounded by a 6ft. corrugated iron fence and a small charge was made for admission to the matches in the Brookhouse Amateur League. There was a Brookhouse Cup which is believed to be in the Harris Museum. The story goes that when the Preston Pals Battalion was going over the top in WWI they shouted to each other 'Brookhouse rules lads', ie no quarter given, tackle them hard.
