General notes
In 1926 a decision was made to extend the tram system from the Wellington, by Turf Moor, up Stroyan Street. One of the main reasons for its construction was that it would enable people from all over the local area to get to football matches with relative ease. However, only eight years later Burnley Corporation scrapped its tram system and invested heavily in buses.
This particular photograph shows the construction of a connecting curve on to Gunsmith Lane, which allowed trams coming from Nelson and Harle Syke to progress under the culvert, towards the football ground.
