Pain Hill Farm, Slaidburn
One of the many farms on the fells surrounding Slaidburn, Pain Hill Farm - originally spelt "Pane" - is situated about a mile to the west of Slaidburn. It was once the home of John Brennand, a collector of excise. It was this John Brennand who left money in his will to pay for the building of a school in Slaidburn. That school is Brennand's Endowed School.
