Hagg Wood is an ancient wood which means that there has been continuous woodland cover since at least 1600 AD. The 1840s Ornance Survey map shows that it was called the Hag Plantation. As reported in the Woodland Trust Management Plan 2011-2016, it was by them on 26 May 1987 from the estate of the neighbouring Hollins farm. The farmer, Mr G Braithwaite started negotiations, but died before they were completed. It was funded by grant aid from the Countryside Commission, Burnley Borough Council, Pendle Borough Council, and the Council for the Protection for Rural England. The wood was part of a farm, and the central area had been clear felled in the 1960's.
