Walverden Reservoir was built in 1869, to provide water for the expanding town of Nelson. Within 10 years it proved insufficient for the towns needs and a new reservoir was built at Coldwell. The photograph is taken looking towards the head of the reservoir, overflows can be seen on the left and right of the photograph.
