Suspension Bridge, Whitewell
Whitewell
This suspension bridge is upstream from the Inn at Whitewell photographed before it collapsed. It enabled people from the opposite bank to attend church, the market and the Swainmote court if the stepping stones were under water. The bridge collapsed in the early part of the 20th century when too many people were on the bridge despite written warnings. Fortunately no one was seriously hurt.
