West Bradford Heys Farm Guest House
West Bradford, Clitheroe
Heys Farm Guesthouse was host to many visitors to the area including in 1931 Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi also known as Mahatma Gandhi. He stayed there for a few days in 1931 while he met cotton mill workers in Lancashire. He was in England in 1931 for a round table conference between India and the British government where representatives from India including Gandhi proposed plans for India to be independent. The British government would not agree to the proposals. It was not till 1947 that India became independent. The photo is labelled "adult school, guest house" suggesting that at the time of the photo the guest house hosted educational courses for adults.
