The windmill, also known as Marsh Mill, was one of many to be found in the Fylde area during the 18th and 19th centuries. Thornton Mill was built in 1794 and was said to be the tallest of the windmills. From the early 1920s, the lower floors were used as tea rooms.Currently, it houses the "Taven at the Mill" pub restaurant.
