The house was built in 1912. The original Clarion House had been a rented cottage in Thorneyholme Square. When in 1903 this proved too small, Nabs Farm in Dimperley was rented. In 1910 the Independent Land Society was formed to raise the money to purchase a plot of land on which the current Clarion House stands.
