Quernmore Post Office - Temperance Hotel
Quernmore
The central point of Quernmore is the post office at the foot of Quernmore Brow, alongside a cluster of houses. It was established in 1883 next door to the Dog and Partridge inn, which first opened its doors in 1826, but the licence was surrendered at the turn of the century so that the youth of the village would not be corrupted! It was renamed the Temperance Hotel, and became a cafe combined with the post office and general store. It served the community well until the mid 1980s when the 'Temp' as it was known locally was sold. It is now a private home, but the post office continues to flourish.
