The old home of a branch of the Walmsley family, who resided here in the 17th century. The date of the present house is 1705, which appears on a tablet above the porch, with the initials of James and Ellen Walmsley.
Power looms were smashed here in 1826, the Walmsley's having been engaged in the cotton industry. They built Moscow Mill and Benjamin Walmsley built Paddock House.
