PC Geoff Wood and Triumph 1800 Roadster, Lytham St Annes
Lytham St Annes
The vehicle was bought by the Constabulary in 1947 from King's Road Garage, St.Annes. It was the only one in the force, and was allocated to PC Wood on condition it worked the Lytham area. It was disposed of in 1954/55 by which time it had clocked over 100,000 miles.

These reminiscences were sent in by St Annes resident, Mrs Anne Ireland in February 2010 after the photograph appeared in the St Annes Express.

"I remember him when I was a very young girl as my father, PC George Stonehewer, worked with him at Lytham Police Station which was then in Bannister Street. I recall the Triumph 1800 Roadster being assigned to PC Wood and asking my father why he couldn't have it as it was so much better than the one he drove. He said that as he was a large man it would take him too long to get out to chase bad men!
I am 90% sure that prior to getting the Triumph, PC Wood rode a police motor bike and this could account for his leg wear in the photograph. PC Wood was a very nice man and I regularly played with his daugter Jeanette. I assume the family got moved as part of the job which happenend fairly regularly in those days.
Lytham Police Station was covered by a number of man in the 1940s and 1950s either on foot or bicycle and eventually by car. Looking back now I realise what a beautiful bulding it was : the public area where there was a lrage thick wood counter and a roaring fire in the background, the prison cells near the back of the station that held no home comfortsand finally the big back yard that had a petrol pump and where the car drivers had to check the oil every day before taking cars out"
