General notes
Calder Vale Inn originally Bridge End House, a private house lived in by people of some importance, including the Peel family known for Sir Robert Peel, and Margerison's calico printer. Around 1861/2 it became Bridge End Inn, and later Calder Vale Inn, owned by Massey's of the nearby Bridge End brewery. In 1931 the Police objected that it was redundant, as there were 17 houses within 300 yards, and it was only 54 yards to the Cross Keys, and 76 to the Plane Tree, and in 1939 the Magistrates agreed and it lost its licence. Demolished. Image dated ca. 1902. Thomas Smith Radcliffe the Painter and Decorator advertised on the wall died in 1906.
