General notes
A lant bowl was used by clothiers to remove grease from and bleach raw wool. The family would fill the aperture with stale urine, the contents would overflow into a stone trough.
Ralph Cross was a tax inspector who documented and photographed old buildings, barns and beeholes throughout the north west of England.
