Edge side Farm, Great Harwood
Great Harwood
By the Enclosure Act of 1762, the commons in Great Harwood were divided between the Lords of the Manor, the Heskeths and the Nowells. As a result land was leased for new farms. Many of the outlying farms were built at this time, Edge Side Farm, Clinkham Lane, being one of them. The style of building was typical of our locality, plain and austere. The plaque on the building reads "Erected in 1770 by Robert and Elizabeth Cross". Alterations have been made to the farm and the barn is now an extension to the house.
