Built in 1854 for Edward Stocks Massey as a spinning mill. In 1882 the mill suffered a serious fire. It continued to be used as a spinning mill until around 1880 when cheaper cotton spinning production costs in Oldham forced its closure. The mill re-opened in 1890 as a weaving shed and it changed ownership and usage many times over the next century. It is now part of the new academic development on Trafalgar Street.
