General notes
In times that are gone, the Laund was a vaccary of the forest and received its name from the Laund or Park, a place maintained for the purpose of rearing the larger animals of the chase. After the deferesting, in the reign of Henry the 7th, it was occupied by a branch of the Riley family who are mentioned in the court rolls of the 16th century. A branch of the Worsleys of Rising Bridge afterwards lived here. These became a notable local family, and they built the present mansion at the Laund. Wheel Rims, a local leader during the power loom riots of 1826, lived at one of the cottages. And when the soldiers searched the hose for his arrest he hid himself in the wood and escaped. See Ainsworths 'Old Homesteads' A.O.&T. 24/11/1917. For locality see map No 1 F-3
