Accrington
This is Accrington's oldest hostelry dating back to the 16th Century. It was situated at the centre of the old township where vestry meetings were held and overseers appointed. Henry Emmott was landlord and host during the Civil War period and Nicholas Assheton the diarist dined here. A very notable host was William Dewhurst, the king of old Accrington in his day. The first recorded concert in Accrington was held here in 1806 and Accrington Old Band and Choral Society rehearsed here from their fonding in 1842.
