Burnley General Municipal Hospital
Burnley
The Primrose Bank Infirmary (pictured here) was built as an addition to the Union Workhouse in 1895. This was appropriated by Burnley Corporation in 1933 under the Public Health Acts Amendment Act and became know as Burnley General Municipal Hospital. Due to the land that had been acquired by the Burnley Board of Guardians there was plenty of room for expansion around the site, which occurred extensively over the second half of the 20th century. Due to a readdressing of public health facility requirements in the early 21st century, much of the original hospital was demolished, including Primrose Bank.
