This photograph shows Bridge Street, close to the junction with St. James Street. This end of the street was demolished in the mid 1960's to make way for the Charter Walk Shopping Centre.

The street's name derives from an old bridge that once crossed the river Brun, connecting residents in the south of the settlement with the old King's Corn Mill that was located here before it was destroyed by fire in 1820's. It was then replaced by a more modern steam powered mill.
