A photograph of the aftermath of a lightning strike on the steeple of Christ Church, Chatburn on May 3rd 1854. Most of the steeple had to be pulled down and repairs were finished by the autumn of 1854. In this image it is possible to discern the temporary buttress established to prevent the steeple's total collapse.
