On the 4th January 1896, tragedy struck when Richard Boys, his wife Rebecca and twelve year old Maggie McClusky were killed when an old factory chimney collapsed on to two shops on St. James's Street. One of the shops was Mr. Boy's Hat Shop; the other was Peter Grant's cloggers, where young Maggie was patiently waiting for her father's clogs to be repaired. Mr Grant, although buried in the rubble, survived the incident. The rubble and remaining buildings were cleared and replaced by the buildings that are there today.
