Built in 1864 for John Burton, a wealthy cotton mill owner, it has seen many owners since. It was an hotel for senior civil servants but the current owner in 2022 is James Warburton local entrepreneur who owns a number of hotels in Lancashire and Yorkshire including the Emporium and Holmes Mill in Clitheroe. It is now primarily a wedding venue.
