Abbeystead
The reservoir at Abbeystead was built as a compensation reservoir, to provide a steady and sufficient amount of water passing down the river. Various mills relied on the water as a source of power so an even flow, unaffected by extraction of water for domestic use in Lancaster, was important and water could be pumped from the River Lune into this reservoir. Although the reservoir still exists, it is no longer as large and acts as a weir, with much of the reservoir silted up and covered with trees.
