General notes
A group of people stand on the site of a demolished building at the bottom of Cooper Street and Finsley Alley, which adjoined Finsley Gate. On the corner is William Vernon's hairdressers, which moved to a new property after this one was demolished.

Cooper Street was one of a number of small streets located in the area, which contained back-to-back houses. During the late 1920's and early 1930's, these streets were demolished by Burnley Corporation as part of a slum clearance programme. The other streets in this area that were demolished were Finsley Alley, Top Street, Penny Street and Whip Street.
