Postcard shows the unvielling of the Cenotaph in Brierfield, situated outside the Tunstill House, the town Hall. The memorial commemorated over 200 men that lost their lives from the surrounding area during WW1. An accompanying article appeared in the Nelson Leader in July 1921 describing the scene where over 1,200 people attending the ceremony. The memorial was later moved to its current position in front of the library in June 1951.
