The Clifton Family with its many estates in the area prospered particularly from mid 18th century to mid 20th century. Many buildings and streets in the Fylde bear testimony to the importance of the family during this time: Clifton Square, Clifton Drive, Clifton Street, Lytham Hall, to name but a few, retain their names as a result.
