William Porritt
The view on the postcard looks towards the North Promenade with the Paddling Pool in the foreground and the Majestic Hotel, formerly the Imperial Hydro Hotel, in the background. The North Promenade is where the Porritt Houses were built. These stone-built residential villas on the North Promenade were built by William Porritt at the turn of the century for the new Victorian middle-classes. They subsequently became known as "The Porritt Houses". Most of these still remain as hotels or converted flats. The postcard is addressed to: Miss E.Woods, Nelson. The message reads: "Dear Lizzie We are having our holidays here, doing well & having good weather. We will come before long. Hoping Father & Mother & Yourselves are quite well. Aunt Ellen."
