The photograph was taken following the opening of the summer exhibition of paintings at the museum and art gallery in Whitaker Park. At the same time, Henry Parkinson (Accrington Friend and Well-wisher) presented two display stands to the newly-formed Rawtenstall and District Historical Association. He is pictured on the left. Alderman Samuel Compston is on the right. Fourth from the right is Major David Halstead of Haslingden.
