General notes

John Locke worked on the siting of the Huncoat and Calder pit shafts. Huncoat colliery shafts were sunk to the Upper and Lower Mountain Mines by George Hargreaves & co between 1890 and 1893. The colliery closed on 9th February 1968 because it's workable reserves were exhausted.
