General notes
Site - Nicholas Worsley and Co. beam engine
Machine type - Whitakers were best known for their brickmaking machinery but the few engines that they built gave very good service, and were of plain and substantial design. It was very well finished, and well kept. There were forged bosses on the middle of the valve and engine connecting rods. It was unusual to place a pinch barring rack upon the face of the barring engine crankface, as seen on the print. The low pressure cylinder was fitted with a piston valve with twist cut off motion, operated by a feather on the vale spindle guide, similar to that of Petrie's . It was regrettable that this well kept plant was scrapped when electric drives were adopted in 1958 - 9
