General notes
Sinking new borehole 1928, to a depth of 350 ft. Accrington derives a great part of it's water supply from underground sources at Altham, where a pumping station has been in existence for many years. The water is hard, but excellent quality. According to geological evidence softer water exists at a greater depth, boring operations being used to access, improve and increase the supply.
