General notes

The Beggar Boy

A companion figure to that of the Beggar Girl

What a striking study of the abandonment of boyhood days. When bird-nesting and rambling, by fields and woods, appeals most strongly to a little Beggar Boy, though scanty of his fare, yet without a care, and ready for mischief or fun, is the prerogative of a lad when adventure is the life he dreams of.
" Carry me back on your swift young wings
O thoughts of the days departed
To that magical land, where forever dwells
The lilt of a lad light-hearted."
