General notes
This bandstand was originally erected for the visit of King George V and /queen Mary to Accrington on July 9th 1913. It stood at the junction of Peel St and Blackburn Road, where their majesties were received by the mayor Captain John Harwood. After the event the stand was removed to Oak Hill Park for a bandstand, the one presented by Joseph Duxbury being used as an aviary. This view was taken before the structure was demolished, the canopy being removed some time previously owing to its insecurity. Prior to the Great War all panels round the top contained the names of great composers, but were obliterated as a result of the wat. It served a useful 16 years service, before demolition
