General notes
Matilda Harrison, Accrington poetess and spiritualist. Included with the file copy is the following information: "Mrs Matilda Harrison, often described as Accrington's poetess, died at her home in Augusta Street at the age of 56 years. In her younger years Mrs Harrison was a Wesleyan, but afterwards joined the Spiritualists and spent a great deal of time in the advocacy of Spiritualism in different parts of Lancashire. It was, however, as a poetess that she was best known locally, and her contributions to the press were widely read and highly appreciated. In 1890, with the aid of friends, she published a book of poems under the title of The Poet's Wreath, and this was dedicated to the memory of Mr Benjamin Hargreaves, of Arden Hall, for whom Mrs Harrison had a very great regard. Her verses were of considerable literary merit."
