General notes
This homestead was built by the Rileys, and named New House, to distinguish it from the old house of High Riley. Thomas Riley of New House was trustee of Accrington Chapel in 1545. A romantic interest is attached to the house from the fact that Ann Riley, heiress, was forcibly taken possession of, by John Ainsworth of Knuzden Hall in 1609. Her relatives brought the matter to the Chancery Court, when Ainsworth had to release her, and the estate. The present house was built in 1668, the date being over the door in the interior. The arch of the open fireplace is still in evidence at this old farm. It is better known as Harvey's Farm, on account of it's having been occupied by that family.
