General notes
This was the former Farm House of the Black Abbey Farm, and was situated in Black Abbey Fold. It would, in the early days of the 19th Century, be situated in the open country, amidst smiling fields and meadows, with the rippling brook meandering its way to the sea, sparkling and clear. It was situated on part of the old Black Abbey site, or Abbey Grange of the 13th Century. What wonderful memories are conjured up, at the name of this old monastic edifice. It was linked with the famous Kirkstall Abbey in Yorkshire. This old cottage would not be known by the old monks.
