General notes
Blue Slates is situated on the ancient road from Accrington to Loveclough, and the branch road of the main medieval highway. It is of no great age, and is typical of the moorland homes of the early 19th Century. At one time it was the home of the Redman family, one of whose members the late Mrs. H Parkinson, was born here. Blue Slates is interesting on account of its situation, being near the old moorland track. Formerly, travellers up Sandy Lane would turn right here, in order to reach Haslingden, and to the left for Huncoat or Padiham. Even in the 12th Century, the monks of Kirkstall Abbey found their way into the Hyndburn valley down this road.
