General notes
The last remaining cottage with garden in Abbey Street, built in 1815. At that time it was no.3. Formerly all the cottages in Abbey Street had similar gardens at the front. That was at a time when Accrington was a pretty rural village. Peel Park estate was just behind the cottage, and presented a country aspect. It seems now hidden away among the many larger business premises, and one may pass without noticing its obscurity. It is now numbered 35, but still its old time appearance seem unimpaired, a cosy interior presents itself. Kenyons and Hitchons are among the families who have occupied the house, the latter family were tenants in 1939 when the photograph was taken.
