General notes
A former residence of the Kenyon family, who moved here from Milnshaw House, which they had occupied for centuries. The last of the family, Elizabeth Kenyon married William Nutter, and they were the parents of Major Nutter of Rough Lee, Accrington. The house was later occupied by the Taskers and Dr. Gillespie, whose niece married Alderman Sprake. Dr. William Geddie went to reside there in 1875, and occupied it for 18 years. James Kirkman, vet, lived there afterwards. The house was sold by the Nutters to Mr. Ashworth, from whom it was purchased by the adjoining Primitive Methodist Church. The Primitive Methodist School was built between Kenyon Street and Mole Street in 1892. The new church opened in 1928, built on the site of Jessamine Cottage. A vet's surgery occupies the site (2025)
