General notes
Hyndburn House was the house of Robert Peel, the eldest son of the first Jonathan Peel of Accrington House. In 1849, Frederick Steiner bought the house and made it one of the finest in the neighbourhood. Steiner Park extended from Portland Street to Park Road, and from Blackburn Road to Hyndburn Road. The photograph shows the entrance lodge in Blackburn Road on the site of the Grammar School. Hyndburn House was demolished in 1886.
